Jade street is the largest jade trading market in Hong Kong. The beginning of the street started from the jade traders fled to Hong Kong in the 1950s due to the Chinese Civil war. In the early 60s, there were only around 10 stores, and slowly grown to more than 100 stores in the 70s. Now the Jade Street has become a popular spot for the tourists.

The reason why the Chinese likes jade so much is because that they believe it represents power. In the Shang Dynasty, jade was heavily used by there emperor.
Jade is also every hard so it is difficult to carve. However, the Chinese really like the fact that it is extremely durable but pretty as light can pass through it and shine the color of green. Therefore, carving jade has been well respected and appreciated because of its difficulty.
